Unless you are Martha Stewart you do not have service for 40. I got this bee in my bonnet one year and said that I wanted the family (then numbering 40.Yes, you read that right ,40.) to all sit down for Thanksgiving, rather that doing it buffet style. I wanted matching plates that were not the paper cheesy things with a turkey printed on it. I took this as a creative challenge. I couldn't come up with china for 40 so I went for plastic. (its still not paper, it counts) I bought 11 yards of burlap for the tablecloth(its cheep), then bought clear plastic plates, and white plastic plates of the same size. I rubber stamped a fall leaf on the back of all the clear plates. then layered them on top of the white plates. Voila! something more special than paper. Stamped the napkins to match. After dinner. we just took the top plate off and used the bottom white plate for dessert. So there ya go, my tip for the LARGE thanksgiving dinners. Now to work on matching chairs for 40+.

Well that is disgusting... *grin*...only because why in the world could I not think of something like that... what a FAB idea... thank you so much.
Should we be calling D. Martha Steward now? LOL. Great ideas.
OMG I love this, with large families and holiday dinners this was a wonderful solution.
Sorry I am a Martha fan :)
ok, seriously - 40? are you insane?! i can't handle 10 of my family members at the same time (let alone, cook and clean for them). great idea though - i might try something similar for c'mas (we're military so i'm sure we'll be inviting lots of single soldiers over... strangers in large groups i can handle... bickering family i've learned i can't... at least not w/o a strong drink)
We number more that forty now. I grew up in a family of six kids. 4 sister, 1 brother. This year My dads side of the family is having the family reunion on thanksgiving. Try service for 120!
Maybe we should call you Martho instead of Martha, or maybe Mister Stewart.
Wow I couldn't imagine having a sit down for that many people. Love your plates. I also love the new background and topper to your blog. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
Amazing. I have never in my life met a husband who would do all this for nice place settings! Bravo to you!
What a great idea! I have hosted as many as 25 kids at family birthday parties and this would be a wonderful idea for that too. Perhaps I could even have them make their own and count it as a party activity. :D Thanks for sharing.
Derek,
What an Awesome Idea you have there. Thanks.. As of to date our family is now 46.. *LOL* I do not have a table that big *LOL* So we added a ROOM to the house so we could place Tables in it for Holiday dinners. Works great and we needed the extra space anyway for everyday use. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
